My WW2 Flag 9-11 story

Hello All:
Here is my 9-11 flag story. I won for a song off of eBay a flag
listed as by a consignment shop as a US Navy flag, which was
actually a rare New York Navy Yard made WW2 auto fender
flag for use on FDR's Limo. The flag was framed under glass,
so I asked the seller to just send me the flag without the heavy
frame, that way I would get it sooner - less packing time. So
the Boston seller got the flag into the mail on a monday, and
it made the plane East to California early tuesday morning, but
it never arrived. Weeks went by, and as the flag was insured the
USPS told me that the package had been on one of planes that
hit the WTC on 9-11. Unfortunately we all know the rest of that
story!

Amazing story! For the flag to have survived since the FDR days and to have been destroyed in this way--it's incredible!

Allah Akbah hey!!! Spewing about that OFW.

But in the big picture your sacrifice was on the lesser side of the scale.

Perhaps you'll come accross another one day if indeed another exists?

Its funny, just yesterday I was sending a parcel to the Us, and I was wondering if any WAF members had ever lost any items due to plane crashes.

By the way, did you ever get any type of reimbursement from the sender or the post?

Terrible to see that one tragedy causes another! yet, sometimes from tragedy, good things arise. I have a little story to add to yours. Fast forward 3 months to Decmber 11, 2001. A very wealthy Business owner here in the Central Valley of California, with numerous ties to New York and the World Trade Center decided to fly 1100+ survivors of 9-11 to Fresno, California for a weekend of fun times and to help ease their suffering. The survivors were all FDNY Firefighters, NYPD, and NYPA police officers. He also had a dedication ceremony for a 9-11 memorial in Clovis, California. As a part of the Fresno Fire Department, I asssited in the weekend activities. I was serving drinks at the private parties FFD bar. I brought along my duty helmet and an American flag. I had these guys sign my flag and helmet. Each signture was sealed with a toast between the signer and myself. Needless to say, I was very sick the next day. Some healing happened and bonds were formed. T-shirts, patches and tears were readily exchanged! Lifelong friends were made, and one medicaly retired FDNY Firefighter found a future wife that weekend. He now lives out here, and is living his dream of owning his own NY style family deli / restraunt. These are my momentos from that weekend.
