I, too, would love to hear the story of where, when, and how you found these! DTS
<center><h4>Hello DTS:
A few rare old flags can still be found out of the so called
woodwork (i.e., vet estates), but most these days are now
available via militaria shows like the SOS and MAX, or online
web site sources. The WW2 Nazi military unit flags are cool
design and construction quality wise, but lack background
history once removed from their trooping pole, unlike other
WW2 unit flags. Unfortunately many were destroyed on all
sides, see lost US example shown below. All that remains is
the original PQMD Depot photo taken before the flag was issued.

OFW,
It never ceases to amaze me how many unusual flags
you have. Talk about a labor of love. Is your library as
extensive as your flag collection? I hope you know all
of us on this forum appreciate the insight you share here.

<CENTER>Z: Thanks, always nice to be appreciated. After nearly 40 years of collecting old flags and reference materials about same, I still wish I could say that my library, if you can call it that, was as organized as I'd like, but sadly it is not. Here is a question you can answer for me. How many pole mounting holes (up-down, & horizontal) does your green G-LP, green Army, and Luftwaffe flags have? I wonder if they are the same, and likewise which a green RGG flag matches pole mounting nail hole wise? Only interested in the single nail row hole count, not those due to pole wrap. <h1>OLDFLAGSWANTED</h1>

I am not sure what you are asking.
All four of those flags are slit wide open on the hoist side.
The other three sides are all fringe.
There is not one single 'hole'. A bunch of nail holes are visable.
All are open and the pad is viewable.
The Jager has no padding.
There is a great full page view of the Land Police flag
on page 93 of 'Flags & Standards of the Third Reich' by
Brian Leigh Davis. The HG Regimental with the southern
cross appears on page 111. There is a good bit of history
on the southern cross and its use on this flag on p 154.

I'm asking how many nails were used to mount your flags?
Is the number the same on the army, Air Force, and Police,
and if not how many on each type? Are the number of nails
the same on both of your Luftwaffe flags (how many up-down,
and at the bottom left-right, i.e., non-repeat holes not caused
by the same nail due to wrapping the flag around the pole).

I hope you know I wouldn't do this for just anybody.
My untrained and untrammeled attempt at counting reveals
that the Lufts are the same in count. 76 across and 12 down.
Same for the Jager.
However, the HG only has 40 across with 10 down.
I also found this written inside the Jager: Fleck23.
Maybe it has something to do with a unit.
It is stunning how much darker the green is in the Jager than the HG.

Great data, from some superb fahnen, many thanks!
Maybe, G-LP flags had 40 nails, and the RGG Bn flags
76 like the LW & Army fahnen? Guess we won't know
until the Southern Cross RGG flag shows up sometime.
The Jager "Fleck23" is the maker "Fahnen Fleck", the
number 24 is either the company registration or maybe
the number of the flags produced by their firm? Don't
think it is the number of green Jager flags made as
there was likely not that many Jager battalions, something
that would have to be checked in Tessin's Verbände und
Truppen 39-45 which lists what units got what flags.

PS/ Not a fan of the vex word coined
by Whitney Smith of the Flag Research Center in Boston,
prefer just being known as an old flag collector, thus my
OLDFLAGSWANTED cyberspace name.

If you pay your $50 in 1804 US Silver Dollars then you likely
have a deal! I actually bought my first military unit flag
back in the early 1970's for $60, believe it or not. The price
of these rags can sometimes be cheap or dear, all depends
on the buyer and seller, but these days most collectibles are
sky high price wise, unless grossly misidentified which does
happen from time to time in nitch knowledge items like flags.

Hahahaha! I was just kidding!!!
It's funny how on this forum people has so little humor or don't understand it when you put in a little joke.
Oldflagswanted, I do value you as a fellow member and thanks for your oppinions on my flags.
You don't realy think that I was serious about the $50.00 CASH do you? I hope not! I don't think that you thought that I was......I hope not.
I was just kidding, and I admire this flag alot!!!
I'm really fond of Double Eagles. Say a Saint-Gaudens 1933.
Or even a lowly 1927D Double Eagle.
I've actually seen up close and personal a 1920S.
It was valued at $40,000 at the time. It would have bought
a new Jaguar then.
lolol... in reality you had the decimal point incorrectly placed.... $50,000.00
Man.... OFW is the Flag Dude It is superb to have such knowledge at our hands and i'm more than certain it is a pleasure to discuss with such willing participants the fruits of all the years of gaining knowledge... The only thing is i wish i could lay claim to back the 60's finding all this stuff for like dirt cheap prices and the fact it was so prevalent.. I am a keen antique store hunter but i do most of my hunting on the PC as potentially you can still find a bargain if you try enough!!
Will post other interesting stuff i have for discussion soon too. just with all these fine standartes everything else pales into insignificance!!
