    HJ Pennant Question...

I don't have pics, and don't expect an accurate assessment, just a general idea.

    PICTURES ADDED....

I came across a double sided HJ pennant that measured about 30 inches long, and 16 inches at the hoist end. One side featured the typical HJ red, and white pattern insignia w/swastika sewn on a diamond. The other side featured a sewn swas within a circle, the lower half of the circle being black, and the upper area above the swas being adorned with gold/yellow embroidered rays (like the sun). Both sides feature a sewn on black upper quadrant which features a "H.J." and the district or region name (no numbers) again, in gold/yellow embroidery. The entire piece is of heavy, multi-piece construction that has beautifully executed chain-stithed (long) embroidery. Again, I know pics are needed for exact and precise opinions, but I am just wanting to see if this description may bring any examples that you have seen to mind, and if this is common.

A picture is worth a thousand words! I can say that if it has true chain stitching, this would be a positive point in your pennants favor. I myself
have avoided collecting pennants as they are so easy to fake, but to each his own.

        Finally...some pictures

Ok, please forgive me for the poor photos, it is a little hard to take forensic style shots when you are being "eye-balled"

This side, as the other features multi-construction. The exception to this side being that the swas. is printed, with the lower half of the black circle is a seperate piece. Overall, there is some mild yellowing, but no rips or major stains. Colors are still fairly vibrant.

Upper left of the same side...

The vertical red tab at the top (and bottom as well) of the pennant is a double stitched material "loop". I am used to seeing ropes on flags, but is this correct for a pennant? It does not appear top be an add on or having been modified in any way. the color matches the rest of the piece.

                      That's all

Any ideas as to value/fair price if good?

My gut feeling tells me that it is good. It feels, looks, and smells old. Nothing glows under a blacklight, and all of the thread appears to be cotton. Thanks in advance for any further input.

Thanks for posting the interesting photos of the odd looking HJ pennant.

                              Hi,
Thanks very much for the additional input, I appreciate it. I understand what you are saying, and it makes sense. I was not aware that felt was commonly used as you say; something else I have learned now. What do you think about the use of the halyard loops being constructed out of the same material as the rest of the flag?
