SYMBOLS. THIS IS A HIGH POLITICAL LEADERS FLAG. IT IS

Flag is for German government vessels at sea 1933-1935.
Has nothing to do with any "High Political Leaders". *********************************************
2) LFC Pro-Vichy Petain Silk Embroidered Standard Flag
(item 6596210439 end time Jan-17-06 14:16:22 PST)
Description (revised):
"This is a very rare, circa 1940 hand embroidered silk
standard flag for the Legion Francaise des Combattants,
(LFC) Section des Terrats. This was originally Vichy-
sanctioned a pro-fascist paramilitary organization
comprised of only French military veterans, but was soon
enlarged to include "friends of the legion" and cadets,
who had never seen battle. Its membership reached 60,000
by 1941. This silk flag is truly one-of-a-kind, this being
the standard of the Terrats Section, in the Pyrenees, near
the Spanish border. The flag measures about 28" x 29"...
...I think that this is a rare item. I have bought and sold
militaria for many years and have never seen one like this.
Any remaining examples would most likely have been destroyed
or hidden away. I am placing a reasonable reserve on it and
a realistic "buy it now" price. Great investment piece. A
German counterpart would be many thousands of dollars! ..."

Although I try not to collect veterans flags, I do have two of
these Vichy examples in my own collection. Usually these flags
have a city shield badge on the back, one of mine is from the
North African City of Bizerte and was GI captured when we
took that city, as many LFC vets took up arms against Allied
troops during WW2. My other one is shown in the David
Littlejohn's book "Foreign Legions of the Third Reich - Volume
#4?", as the LFC was as the listing says more than just a veterans organization - they did help the Vichy Police round up Jews to
send off to the Nazi extermination camps, and also were the
recruitment cadre source for the French Fascist Volunteers in
the Nazi Army. As such these flags are viewed with great distain
in modern France, as they are a reminder of French Nazi collaboration.
