    dot 1944 k98 (1945 production?)

I posted this on the Gunboards k98 specific forum, but will add it here, too. I need help finding some parts!

I found an all matching dot 1944 k98 with a 5 digit no suffix serial # in the used rack at a sporting goods chain store for $400.

It is in an OLD beat up sporter stock. Looks like right after the war, it got sporterized, BUT- it is not drilled, ground, or filed, or wrecked in any way I can see. Just dropped in a stock.

It fits the charachteristics of a 1945 produced rifle with a dot 1944 reciever. Here are the specifics.

5 digit serial in the low 40,000 range. Eagle "63" Wa between the "dot" and "1944". No serial on the reciever, just barrel. "dot" shield on barrel. All parts (look) blued, finish is thin in spots, (esp. the trigger guard) but still pretty dark. (perhaps the guard is phosphate, but I am not sure). Stamped "qnw" triggerguard with no locking screws. Milled floorplate, marked "1". Follower marked "lxr". Early sight leaf w/ 2-sided gradient. Bolt root has last 4 serial. Bolt shroud has last 4 serial. Cocking piece has last 2 serial. Bolt has Kriegsmodell round gas vent holes. ( I don't remember if it has the lug, I suppose not). Safety is unnumbered.

I will definitely post pics as soon as it's in my hands. I've been "visiting" it at the gunshop and debating for a month, I finally put it on layaway today, as I just couldn't take it anymore - the idea of missing it, that is.

I guess I will be in the market for a rough textured semi or full Kriegs "dot" stock now! But I will find one...somehow. (hint, hint)

I had recently decided to focus on Czech dot & dou k98 rifles (preferably late war) in my future collecting. So finding this was understandably exciting, and is a very nice start. I'm very happy, indeed. (Anyone want to trade a nice 1940 243 code RC for a late "dou" RC?)

Bill Grist has to have some Czech latewar beauties to show me, right?

Is there anything better than making "a find"?

    I don't think so...
