Sorry to say Frank but it's a stunning example. Best seen the past years in private collection

Nice rig - thanks for showing.

I've got one in similar condition (S/42 1938) with the 2 matching mags and holster. Plus, a local vet near me has a Zero Series P.38 w/ 2 matching mags and holster in about the same condition. Fantastic items to look at, but I strongly agree with the "no battle" and "desk drawer" comments above: these very high-end military P.08 and P.38 obviously saw no combat, as they don't evidence the wear and tear.

On my similar conditioned P.08, I've always believed that it must have been issued to a "desk jockey" type who wore the pistol only on very limited occasions (if at all). In other words, someone who had absolutely no need for a full-sized military caliber pistol managed to get one issued to him, then tucked it away for the duration.

41 byf that started it for me

This is the one that started Luger disease with me . One matching mag and one black plastic one . Congrats on a nice 39-42 .

First pic is the 41 byf and the second pic is what I chase nowdays . No belt marks at all in the loops or on the back of the holster .

We don't know how many came back in that condition only to be used as someone's truck gun. The prizes are those that were taken care of and not used as a regular shooter.

                Ford Nut,

Nice looking "cdg 41" holster, with the large "P08"

I love the Krieghoff as well What year is the HK?

Matt , All are pics from old posts of mine .

The holster isn't handy for pics but the top flap has slightly thin dye in places . Not wear or scrubbing etc and the " never had a belt " bit is pretty obvious in person .

The 1939 holster posted first and some posted by " channelisles " in the past are about as good as HONEST ones come .

HK is posted here and is original contract dated 1936 .

                  Dave

I would guess many were nice in true " brought home " condition and then time starts . Not uncommon to see nice crispy ones with major finish loss or RUST from poor storage . Hurts to see those .

Yeah I agree...the minty ones was a desk draw storage...the one I got has no use marks and therefore I do not shot it. I am keeping the value in that condition. I got it off a vet...17 years ago...for 350 bucks...I thought I was paying a lot of $$. As a full rig...it came with 2 spar un serial number mags with the 2 s/n mags. He said he got all 4 mags from the same German POW.

Perfect p08. No doubts about the finish. Straight out of factory!!!
And the matching magazines and perfect holster are the "gold" bonus.
                          Thanks for sharing Frank.

                              Winner, winner, chicken dinner !!
Gotta' love a wonderful rig like that !!
I don't judge to harshly on pictures on the internet. Lights, either natural or indoor, can affect the way these appear so much.
I would love to have that rig !! Enjoy.
Nice to have in any collection, I say !!
