OK, after months of worrying about licenses (I live in the least gun friendly place in the world) I've come to realize that my dummy AK-47 might be a problem. The receiver is aluminum but not solid. It is mounted to the front of the gun by a screw that goes into the barrel, thus blocking it completely.
However, the guy who makes these did a great job and hollowed out the receiver. Now I'm finding out this could be a problem because it is essentially seen by ATF as being a REAL receiver, despite the mounting and blocking of the barrel. The only parts are the spring and spring rod (I think that is what it is called) and the bolt. The bolt actually slides open. A couple other outfits sell AKs this way. The pseudo-working action is part of the problem, but there is no firing pin, etc.
So the question...how can I go about "sealing" the bolt closed. I can't weld it as the receiver is aluminum and you can't weld a steel bolt to aluminum. I can't think of any other solution either. I thought of auto body filler but any idea on whether that would work?
Anyone know of anyone who sells solid AK receivers? Very frustrating.
