Mr. Petz, What's the history on the K43?....It is made by Walther in 1945...Pictures appear to show a phosphate finish on most metal parts that looks as though it's either worn badly or has been polished....And the stock looks like it's been sanded....Unfortunately not a collector's grade rifle but is probably a good shooter/reenactor candidate.... P38 looks as though it's in nice original condition though....
I recently picked the K43 up from Jack Melvin. As far as the finish goes...K43's were roughly made anyway. If you are looking for blueing on this late war ac45 you can forget it. I don't believe it was done...this rifle is in it's orginal state so as far as collectibility I beg to differ with you on that. These K43's go for quite a bit of money. My understanding it was rescued from being utilized for reenacting purposes.
The P38's have most of the blue/black finish on them. Both came from Vets. The Byf43 came with a Capture paper from a LT in the 10th Armored Division. Bill

Bill, I didn't say blue finish, I said phosphate finish....Alot of 1945 dated rifles were phosphate finished(grey-green finish)...And yes, I know they were crude(rough casted receivers/bolt slide).....Yours appears(at least in the pics) as being heavily worn....The stock also doesn't exhibit the crudeness and rough finish I would expect for a late war Walther k43(maybe was handled alot)...And lastly, I know how expensive they are....I own 2 complete sniper K43's, 1 G43 duv44 in near mint condition, and a G43 shooter rifle w/repro scope mount....Just my 2 cents worth...
Here is some more information and history that I was able to obtain on this particular K43 which makes it a rare collectible in it's own right.
There are various levels of finish on these guns. Even on the phosphated K43s. They are also finished off differently. This one is a very odd/rare one in that it is also a dual lug. The dual lugs were only done for a very short time to help with the travel of the bolt. But, they found out that the second lug got in the way of the ejecting shell. You'll find former dual lugs where the second lug has been cut off. But, not many with the second lug still intact. At one time, this was the highest serial numbered dual lug on Claus Espeholt's database of G and K43s. It is possible that it is still the highest serial numbered of an all matching G/K43. Bill
