Dreibein 34 - AA Tripod

Ok, scratching my head now, the two buckles you show are indeed slightly different in size. Round and flat profile.

However the repro strap I have fits the width of the fixed loop on the driebein head perfectly and the buckle is not sticking out on one end either. I will look this evening on one of my laufbehalter and compare buckles and sling widths. See if I can get a picture posted up.

The difference between the 2 German and the Yugo buckles is the production method:

A-Yugo one is made out on a wire (rounded section) with the central part welded. Right size and kind but wrong production system. It is just un-german style.

B-German ones come from a stamped plate:
-1- The Gew 98 buckle has been rounded mechanically, the central section is wider and the stud has been welded through to it and then welding has been ground off.
-2- The barrel carrier buckle is just stamped, a bit shaped, right size but not kind.

That for Gew, 98 is right kind shape but too wide. That for the barrel carrier is right size but not right kind...So if you merge both you will get right kind and size.

Hello,

I'd like to show another German WWII tripod which I doubt to be a MG42 tripod as it looks different, especially on top where the thread is.
A collector friend has offered it to me but doesn't have a glue either what exactly it was used for.
Swastika is visible under the thick paint as well as a vertical stamped number.

The smaller part comes also with it but he doesn't know if it belongs to the tripod.

Perhaps one of you guys might have an idea.

Hello,

Swastika is visible under the thick paint as well as a vertical stamped number.

Little doubt that it is German, although I too am not familiar with the threaded head piece. I am not fully informed on all dreibein so it is the first time I have seen that style of leg release catch on the top as well but it does make sense as a pressing instead of machined to save time and materials.

I am sure that the fitting to go on the top is not for that tripod. It may even be a re sprayed jugo one as under the gray paint appears to be light green commonly used by the Jugo army. Most likely made for the MG53, but will work with an MG42.

Try posting on the optics forum and someone may know exactly what equipment this is for.

That maker's stamp makes me think it is German. I have seen it somewhere else. It might be for optics or search light, not for MG's.

I guess you are right. That shoe is not for the tripod and that lager looks Yugo. I'll go down to optics forum and see what I can add.
