    Lauf-schutzer 42 repaint!

Hoping I can ask some advice - not really sure the best place to post this!

I have a nicely marked and '42 dated laufschutzer 42 that is Yugoslav green and would like to strip and repaint correctly for display. Any advice from any folks that have done this would be appreciated and suggestions on best color and best source for correct paint as well! Ideally an enamel that has similar properties to war time paint knowing of course there is no lead in it! Thx v much john p

well the 42 date would most likely be the tan color. I've used testors (model master) fs 30266= afrika mustard ; with no complaints on the color.
but, expensive per little can , ect. = if you can find it.

do a search for any company specializing on paints for military vehicals. several in the south & east coast. but, then you need to get a prayer.
if you go with a gray color rust-oleum dark gray primer is not bad (not great).
greens , again testors ,but better would be tamiya's colors (expensive , if you can find it).
they have several olive drab colors.
most of my repaints were on early dated items.
bake the finish on also , if you can.

          Sturmpanzer.

This is what everyone uses in my area.
The germans used a red oxide primer on these and ammo cans. I use Gillespie CoatingsInc. paint, Red oxide Primer III, zinc rich primer.
For the color coat : www.1944militaria.com has the true colors for any color you wish to use, in spray bombs.
If you wish to completely strip the paint, use aircraft grade paint stripper for local hardware store, wash stripper /paint off with wire brush and then soap/water. Let dry in the sun. Mask off cloth strap with silver foil wrapped around strap. two coats primer in hot sun. Two color coats, leave in sun to "bake on"finish. this has produced very durable finishes for me !!
          Good luck.
