    point of fact

actually any date before the war is pre war aka 1919 is in fact prewar. as is 1898 so i guess a 1898 mauser is pre ww2?

Just keep in mind that people here are paying >$10k for series produced pots and rags (I wouldn't)...

Price is actually not that bad for something this rare?

Are there any numbers know for how much were pruduced in gold/silver and in black/metal? Being a medalcollector this is the first i ever see for sale. Pretty cool!

The auction estimate is 35k? I do not know if this has a letter from Walther but its clearly a pimped out golden Walther with grip stock presentations to a WSS solder with KC / Oaks. Really??. Provenance is an authors collection and it looks like it should light a cigar. When I see these things I wonder and then run to the Winchester section of the catalog which is always filled with treats without so much hot sauce. Golden gun seeking a golden goose. Jmho

Are you kidding? Look at the pic in post #3: Waffenfabrik Walther, Zella-Mehlis (Thur).

The Walther company in the past only provided one letter for an engraved presentation. The description is correct in that the gun appears in a group with other engraved presentation pistols. Nice oakleaves and acorns engraving. The question is the grips IMO.

You might want to schedule a meeting with an optometrist In any case, do you really think they would risk a possible $15-30k fake by saving a $50 in raw materials?

I would love to own PP or PPK like this, but I'm way too poor - or cheap

ok..didnt see the other pics. You say this, but the engraved Hitler ppk was clearly post war factory.

Interesting how the internet works sometimes, the engraving on this piece looks fine but could not help but think how easy it would be to run down a the officer lists with the initials for a suitable candidate. Go's on far too much and the premiums for a gun to WSS With KC and oaks could be huge. And you take a look at a letter and provenance and go hunting and find this. http://forums.p38forum.com/forums/vi...hilit=engraved

Maybe the grips are right but they look brand new with no sign of age, the letter is a letter with names and such but no real provenance to put this gun in the hands of the named recipient in the auction ad. Anyone who thinks guns are safe should read that thread for sure, the grip plates for most of these that I was able to find would make this one an off variant or non standard. Still liking that Winchester section though. Of course the gun could be 100% all the way. Best to do some homework as C.O.A's mean little and self reliance in this hobby go's a long way towards self preservation.

Since we have an engraved Walther coming from the collection of a known engraved Walther faker, I would tend to be very skeptical.
