if you are offered a firearm from germany with the addition deko - than its deactivated.
    its only for decorating purpose.

Like "art-deco" it doesn't mean deactivated. The German equivalent word for deactivated is most likely unpronounceable.

        Hi,

I may be totaly wrong here...........
But i think it is slang for 'look'.
I remember when i was much younger it was quite common.
If we wanted to see something, we would say 'lets have a deko'.
Someone told me it was German............
But i am most likley wrong.......
        Steve.

"deko" does in fact refer to a deactivated firearm, like a decorative one

              Hi John,
It can mean a deactivated/replica or model gun. I've got a "deko" MP44 from Germany and its a replica.
I would double check with customs or the police before trying to import a "deactivated" weapon into the UK.
What's legal in Germany or France might not be legal in the UK.
If they say it's ok, make sure you get it in writing..
              Tread carefully as they say..

Yes of course! Linguist says deko means decoration purpose, but Deko mean for first a cripple. Deko pistols in Germany are sold with longitudinal cut on the barrel, striker welded into the slides, hammer or something similar looking welded into the frame in cocked position and part of frame milled out to prevent use. For those who speaks German:http://www.cds-ehrenreich.de/diverses/deko.htm

I bought a Mauser rifle ( swedish made ) in Berlin and it only is welded in the barrel. The rest is in working order. So I think that it is different in every county and every county in germany to :P

Nonononono! It is all Latin, my friend. Deactivated (eng.) = deaktiviert (ger.)
                    Cheers, Frank
