I'm just asking because a replica would at least have the exact shape of an original to be saleable.
It would be sanded and have the iron fiittings.
There should be multiple for sale.
This example has wood worms as well.
Hobbywork is plausible but even than it should be sanded.
Late war could be a theorie, but I haven't seen pics of this tipe of buttstock
in use.
Please comment my remarks?

Fake: looks very much like the original and bears all the correct markings (in other words it pretends to be original).
Replica: looks like an original but not necessarily bears all/any correct markings
Copy: more or less looks like original item
So yes, I've made a mistake - it's a copy. Very poor copy. It's not even close to late war, simplified stocks of any kind
How would you call it then?

Denny,
Good point.
If we look at the front of this piece we also see it has been mounted on a rifle (screw holes and wear arround the front).
This butt is made by a machine using bad quality wood .
The wood has it grain eaten/wearen trough the years.
Why would someone make half work (belt / sanding) even for a copy.
Because they are in hurry to make something that looks like a tekstbook one or something that's functional and made very fast?
This piece is very interesting and needs further investigation....
Regards,
FRANK
PS Jacek very nice site you have!

Hey Gentlemens,
thanks for this nice interesting.
I have found this buttstock - and wos woundered ???
I have talk with some German Ground-Searchers - they talk me - some found a original MP44 in the eart - with a buttstock - wothout holes for the sling - and without metall at the end ???
Now i think ?? Is this a Hobby-Homework..or REAL - a rare original Late war Item ????
Thanks for your comments,

I'm not 100% sure any body can say what it is.....I like the two theories.....Maybe it is an unfinished original or a postwar substitute(?)......That's why provenance in this case is so very important.......Bodes
