    Help with 4mm Anschutz Rifle

Gents, these two little rifles just came to me from an estate auction. The .22 looks like a fairly standard model, but the 4mm seems like a more obscure piece and unfortunately is the one I need help with.

Somewhere along the line, a late war 98K front barrel band got put on the end. Does anyone know where I can find an original replacement band for the 4mm?

    I'd appreciate the hel p -s/f Robert

Smaller bore than a .22, with a strange barrel shroud to increase the exterior size.

                  Hi Robert,

I rarely say never, but in this case I am probably correct in saying that you'll search a looooong time and probably never come up with a authentic replacement. I suggest you get the dimensions and contract with a good gunsmith to make you a new one.

                  Beautiful rifles BTW!

                  Cheers
                  Gary

                    Hi Gary,

Thanks for the comment; I'll have to have some patience for certain. I guess since the late war front band fits, I can just find and early h-band type and put it on as a place holder.

The pin mount hole aligns with a standard 98k type, so I can go with that for now - at least it's German and not from Bubba's machine shop!

Nice rifles Robert. As Gary mentioned, parts for these little rifles are hard to come by. Your best bet is probably to look for a rough JGA Wehrsportskarabiner, swap the bands and resell it. Make sure you are buying a Wehrsportskarabiner and not a Wehrmanngewehr. They're both made by JG Anschutz, but the bands won't interchange.

p.s. I'll watch for your front band if you'll watch for the Mauser .22 DSM-34 bolt I need....

Sounds like an option, thanks Denny. I'll keep an eye out for your bolt! s/f Robert

Robert, I don't know if it is a barrel shroud or considered counter-boring. My JGA 4mm has the 4mm barrel a way back from the false muzzle that was designed for the rifle to look like other trainers/K98s?

I wonder if the 4mm required the shorter barrel length because of the propellant? I don't know if a 4mm would clear a full length rifled barrel.

If you want, I can photograph my JGA front barrel band and send you a pic. If you wish, PM me your email.

                            Joe,

My barrel is the same as yours, which I believe is standard for these type rifles. The outside diameter looks comparable to a regular 98k, and based on how the late war band fits, the dimensions for this band are very close to the Anschutz trainers.

Pls do send a pic of the barrel band though! PM sent - s/f Robert
