    Mosin-Nagant

I have a chance to buy a Mosin -Nagant made in 45 by Sako. Normal wear & tear, for $228. Good buy or not? Thanks, Max.

Hi Max, I live in the UK, so I am not too familar with US prices, but the price seems rather high to me for a late war Finnish made rifle? You might find some help here:

Just a personal opinion here, but I do not believe any Mosin-Nagant , Finnish or Russian, regardless of condition, and regardless of arsenal , is wort more than $150.00. And I would only pay that for a near mint matching. (I am talking about standard rifles here, not scope equiped snipers)
These rifles are still plentiful, and some folks are trying to arbitrarily inflate the prices with no real reason.
Once again, just my personal opinion, and others may dissagree,
      Johnnie

        Jonnie,

You are right... I bought a matched M44 with bayonet for 85.00 usd about a year ago and 120 for a matched 91/30 before my deployment early this year.

          Max!

          Max,
I think if you peek around you will find that Nagants can be bought for much less...

7.62x54 the oldest Military cartridge still in use!

Dunhams sporting goods has been selling them for 79 bucks, with bayonet, cartridge cases, cleaning rods etc. If you don't have a Dunhams try SOG (Southern Ohio Gun) has them for $69. Even if you pay 40 buckes for a local dealer to transfer it's a better deal.

Does the M38 have the folding bayonet that is a permanet part of the Rifle? The 44 does. I think that is the difference in the two..although I could be wrong.

It has the same operating system/bolt and ect as the standard MN(M44). It really kicks like a mule though! How much did you end up paying for yours?

The main difference between the M-38 and M-44 is the bayonet. The M-38 was the standard carbine version of the 91/30 series, and I BELIEVE will accept the detatcable standard cruciform bayonet of the 91/30 rifle. The M-44 has a permantly attached cruciform bayonet that folds to the side when not in use.
                    Regards,
                    Johnnie

Thanks for posting these links. I wasn't sure if the M-38 carbine was issued with the standard bayonet or not, but according to this site, it wasn't. I have a 91/30 rifle with the cruciform bayonet, and am wondering if the bayonet would actually fit on the muzzel of a m-38 carbine. Anyone have both to check this out, out of curiosity sake?
                          Thanks,
                          Johnnie
