    Luger P08, All matching. #7112

Hi all. Long time reader. First time poster.

This belonged to my Great Grandfather, or at least he acquired it.
All matching + no import stamps
I'd be grateful if anyone knows the history of this gun. In terms of its rarity, factory/place of origin, etc...

Thanks a bunch. I'll try to post pictures of my other collections as well.

Your Luger is a Mauser made 'G" date from 1935 and is not easy to find with a matched magazine. The X mark on you mag indicates that it was the spare mag issued with the gun and is therefore original to that Luger.

The finish is not in great condition, but this being an early 3rd Reich made Luger makes it likely that it saw a good deal of use and wear.

Price or value could be a little tricky with the amount of finish wear but the matched mag is a big plus. IMO you would be hard pressed to buy that Luger from a dealer for under $1500 and if it had 95% finish it would be over 3k from most sources. About 50,000 G dated Lugers were made, most went to the Army but some also went to the Navy and police...your example would be typical of the Army issued variations.

The suffix letter should be on the barrel as it is shown on the frame.

Thanks to all of you guys. I'm very happy with the response I've gotten from all of you. I don't think i'd be selling it but it is very nice to know anything about it that I can.

          Thank you all again.

So do you think a new barrel was installed at the responsible Waffenwerkstatt?

Barrel serial number is corect without the letter block on Lugers. The frame and Mag were the only locations for the letter. The barrel also has the correct early acceptance stamp, in other words it is not marked as one would expect a replacement barrel to be.

IMO it is just a good example of a Luger that saw around 9 or 10 years of service...quite possibly with a weapons crewman like a MG team....I don't have a crystal ball but this one strikes me as an EM issued example rather than an officer's carried example...but that is really just complete speculation on my part.

I think it is just about impossible to tell if the Luger was issued to an enlisted man or an officer. The condition of the blue could have changed from use after the war when it was brought home.

Most of the Lugers were issued to EM. I am sure this example saw quite a bit of service, based upon it's manufacturer date prior to it's capture.

                  Nice G-Date.

Lovely P08, keep it! Or maybe you could just mail it to me so it doesn't take up space in your gun safe
