I really appreciate you giving us a peek into history. Your collection of artifacts is quite simply astonishing in it's quality and interest. Beautiful gun George, just beautiful. Please continue with your lessons, as I know you have more "objects de art" in your safe.

Ronnie, thanks for your kind comments. The object in the photos is a match box holder that would have been given to a three year enlistee at the beginning of his service in 1914. Three year enlistments were required of artillery, train and cavalry enlistees versus two years for all other branches. Obviously these fellows (the survivors) were to be rather disappointed when their service was extended for the "duration".Last edited by GWA; 05-07-2008, 09:18 AM.
