    K98k bcd 4 / avk / Be - Opinion please !

    Hello everybody,

Here is a mauser which has been presented to me.

The "bcd 4" + WaA 749 looks quite normal but there are some points I can't explain so I'm asking for your help!
"bcd 4" is for Gustloffwerke, Weimar
"avk" is for Ruhrstahl AG, Presswerk Brackwede-Bielefeld
"Be" is supposed to be for Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik, Arthur Krupp AG, Berndorf, Austria but the big "B" is strange, isn't it? Is it not supposed to be a small "b"?

This 98k has all matching numbers (1993u) excepted the piece on the top with the number "00200" (German??)

Small information: the "AN" mark that you can see two times on the first picture is from the National French Weaponry in charge of the neutralization.

How can we explain the "avk" and the "Be" on the same part?

Is really this "Be" the mark for Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik or is it somethingelse?

Is there something bad with this 98k?

Thanks a lot for your help!!!

    Max

I'd think the avk = maker, and Be is the steel code...

"00200" where is that show up

    Here's a later bcd4 that I have...

Here is the "00200" mark in the red circle. Any idea about what it is?

      Thanks

It looks nice, shame about the deactivation.

Do all guns in france have to be deactivated?

            Thanks for the picture Bob,

I know it should match but actually my question is:

Is it a German WW2 piece? the "00200" looks strange to me.... no? What do you think about it? Did Germans use numbers with zeros at the beginning?

            Thanks

I have not researched those 2 specific marks, but my belief based on other k98k barrels with similar combinations is that the 3 letter code (avk) is for the firm who made the barrel .....and supplied it to bcd. The 2 letter mark is for the plant that made the steel....sometimes a batch number is also found for the steel batch....it may be underneath the wood in this case.

The 00 leading the serial number on the part is not strange IMO. When Mauser went to five place serial numbers for instance, the last 4 of those numbers stamped on a small part could be 00XX if the full number was say 400XX.
