What revolver is this 11 mm ammo for?

Picked this 10 rd box of 11 mm ammo today. A particial opening of the box reveals a few of the rounds and they look to be rim fire? Can someone translate the lable for me, Ray

Just been having a gander thru' a book and one option might be for the 11mm german service revolver?

This is what it says...

"Cartridge for the German 1879 & 1883 model service revolvers. It has been obsolete since 1904 but a few of these revolvers were used in WWI and even the last stages of WWII. The cartridge is also listed as the 10.6 or 10.8mm German service or ordnance revolver."

and...

"The German ordnance cart is of .43-.44 inch size and bears a close resemblance to the 44 S&W Russian....blah, blah...
This calibre is obsolete. Ammunition has become a collectors item."

Not sure it this helps but the writing on the box looks German and if the date is 1891 then it could tie in?

You have a carton of ammo manufactured in Switzerland for their large caliber Ordnance revolver M1872/1878. The caliber is 10.4mm. I would imagine there is some good value in the carton to a Swiss revolver collector.

This is a rimfire military rifle? says it's quite well known in the US and it was loaded until about 1942 in the US and thousands of surplus rifles were sold there?

Mike, you could well be correct. Ray didn't bother to give us any additional information on the box, approximate size of cartridges or confirm whether rim or center fire. Oh well. I would be interested in knowing if the cartridges were rifle or revolver.
