okay, that p38 we talked about in a previous thread as a "zero" is actually a late war HP ac45. it's on page 42 of gangarosa's book. one of a series of 1800 made. pretty cool...i doubt there are many around. i also saw a nice ac44 "h" block w/ a waa140 numbers matching frame made by FN. interesting variation, yes?

Yes late war Walther made P38s may have frames made by FN Browning. FN also made slides that will also have the "eagle 140" proof mark. Late war P38 may aslo have locking blocks and barrels made by Boemische Waffenfabrik, which will be marked "fnh" and/or "eagle WaA76". Also magazines made by Erste Nordboehmische Metallwarenfabrik, will be marked "jvd".
Thanks for clearing up the "zero" series issue. Yes, the Heereswaffenamt did purchase a limited number of HPs-AC45s. The total production was around 1750. The serial range of the zero series HPs is between 025800-027750.
Most of these HPs will have the Walther banner and logo on the left slide, and will usually only have one military proof "eagle 359" on the right side of the slide. It may have other commercial proofs on it as well though "eagle N".
Due to the rarety of these, I would advise to be extremely cautious about purchasing such an item.

thanks, matt. always good info...this HP is in a private collection and not for sale. it has no walther banner (ac45) and 359-swas-359 on the starboard side of the slide. the serial number is stamped on the starboard side of the frame and on the stbd side-top silde/ejection port area. on that ac44 the only non-walther part is the frame and it is, of course, all numbers matching. fun collecting!

Wow, a military proof marked HP without the Walther banner is quite rare! Too bad its' not for sale! I would like to see it though!
