    480 Marked P38s

    Hey guys,

I am thinking about buying a 480 marked P38 with a matching mag and I had a question for you....the serial number on the mag is written across the toe.

If memory serves the serial number for a 480 should be on the bottom left-hand side right? I know that they switched the mag serial number location to the toe during the ac 40 code....

Is it possible that this mag is matching or is it definitely wrong?

I look forward to your replies!

Here is a shot of the mag serial number, like I said across the toe....

I just checked my other P38 mag serial numbered across the toe and the number is the other way (eg the toe needs to point at you to read the serial number and this one the toe needs to point away to read the number)...

    Thoughts anyone?

      Hi,

In my opinion, your mag was numbered post war. As you say, the numbers are stamped upside down from the correct way and the style of the numbers is wrong. I have never seen a 480 with numbers on the toe. As you say, they should be on the side of the tube. Also, if it was an original mag, it would have 2 E/359s stamped on the spine.

      Regards, Leon

I agree with Leon. Your mag is definately not a correct matching mag. Should be numbered on the left side, and as Leon stated, should have two "eagle/359" on the spine near the base.
