I have a front sight hood that I tried to attach today. my sight hood looks just like the ones pictured on the web page. I may be doing sometning wrong, my sight hood does not "lock in" on the sides and it rocks back and forth on the sight. What am i doing wrong?

What is the date of your 98k? Does it have the groves cut in the sides of the sight base?

Thats what I was gonna ask. It may be an early model K98 and they did not have the grooves to attach the hood to. If so, your k98 does not need one. But, you could aways just buy another.... (that does use one) They started making the front sight notches late 39 early 40, so you will need one later, or just look at the sight and see if it has the tell tale grooves on the side. What is the numbers on the top of the receiver?
            Regards,
            Mike

Thank you for the info and quick reply. It is a 1939 dated rifle. Above the date is the number 147. The reciever is also stamped with Reichswehr proof marks as well.

I just assumed that all k98's had a front sight hood, but apparently not I gather.
