    Need some P-38 info please

A retired police officer friend recently gave me a P-38 that he no longer wanted. He was given the pistol back in the late 1970's and doesn't know much about it's lineage. I know a little about WWII P-38s but I know there are folks around here that know far more than I do. The pistol has the more modern WALTHER WAFFENFABRIK ULM/DO on the slide and and eagle with BH on it's frame. The serial number is 83XX with either a small h or n after it. I took it apart and noticed that it has a steel frame not alloy. The magazine and lock both have waffenampts on them. The pistol appears to have been reblued at some time in the past and had the slide re-numbered to match the frame. The frame has the same style trigger and hammer as my WWII CYQs. The slide is nicely finished while the frame has machining marks all over it ala the CYQs. There is also a Bullseye mark on the slide. The pistol also has the WWII style grips. Could this be an early Bundeswehr pistol from parts or what? It was free but I just wanted to know as someone told me that WWII parts don't work on later pistols. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
