Hello, I´m new on this great forum. So my first question is about comparing live shooting with the Garand and G43. I have not shoot one of them on the range, so hope the experts can give me some info. What do you think, which one is smoother to shoot and has the better precision and can aim faster on a target.

Before you go shooting your G/K43, I would recommend reading Backbone of the Wehrmacht Vol 2 page 163 to 165. Then I would google "Apfeltor" and after viewing his web site, buy one of his shooter kits.
Otherwise you may have to join the people on ebay bidding up the cost of parts for those rifles. Spare parts are not cheap and busting something with a matching number on it can turn a $2500 or more rifle into a $1600 rifle. (Actually, I would not recommend shooting an all matching number G/K43.)
After doing the above, I would say that both are a hell of alot of fun to shoot, but I would give the nod to a good Garand over a good G/K43. (I collect G/K43s) -
Having extensively fired both rifles, I prefer the M1 without a doubt. The trigger, sights, accuracy and handling abilities of the M1 are by far superior......more a rifleman's rifle.Willi

I have to agree completely with Willi. Having shot both weapons also, the M1 Garand is far superior in all aspects...okay, the clip, how it is loaded and its flying out the top after the last round, well, it could be improved upon. Oh, I think they call that weapon the M14 ...another fantastic weapon!Comment

Brian, I was just out shooting my M1A super match on Veteran's Day. I do love it! The range was filled with M1s, M1As, AR15 types, etc that day. Heard some nice stories from a USMC 2nd Division veteran who remembered still having a M1 in boot camp in 1963.
If you are ever out my way, we could do a range visit.

Have to agree with what was said before. Other than the detachable box magazine the Garand is a far and away superior rifle. Every time I shoot my G43(and yes I do have the spring upgrades as well as some buffering I designed) it feels like it's going to come apart(same feeling I get with my SVT40 for that matter
) the Garand on the other hand is very solid.

My experience are that the garand is a better rifle. More solide, acurate and reliable,BUT I must say that I do find it much moore fun to shoot a G-43.Comment

I also agree with Willi here. I have fired both the G/K43, M1 Garand, M14, and M1A.
The M1 Garand is a far superior rifle. This is comming from a guy who collects only German weapons!! The Garand is much better built. The sights are better, and the trigger is much better.
The G/K43 is a roughly made rifle, and is subject to breaking at any time.
The first time I fired by AC45 K43, I broke the gas piston spring on the very first round! Luckily none of the parts broke, but I replaced the spring, and it's been fine ever since. But still a scary scenario under combat conditions!

Besides the very valid reasons already cited I would add that the safety is cumbersome. And while it’s more of a personal observation, I don’t care for the bolt carrier flying back and forth. The M1 is not perfect but is a much better choice if when it comes to a reliable* battle rifle.
* Not a side by side shooting issue: But I had to replace weak springs and busted “C” clip on one rifle, and springs and a firing pin on my sniper (better accuracy than iron sights but nothing to write home about - which was something that the Germans were well aware of). M1 Garand’s a couple of springs because they were a little more worn and kinked than I cared for. FPComment
