    Short Polizei bayo for review

This is a very small bayonet, around 36cm long.

I like the look of it however, I'm not familiar with the eagle on the grip, it looks quite different from those that I am used to (although my knowledge is limited).

I am awaiting another image of the eagle but in the meantime I thought I'd chuck it on here and see what opinions were.

    Thanks

The detail of the pics is poor but I don't like what I see so far and I suspect the grip emblem is a poorly done reproduction.

The Alcoso Polizei seitengewehr model you show appears to be a Weimar produced bayonet. Originally having a 17" blade, they were ground down to 13" post-1936. This one however is shorter than that (roughly 13" overall?) which concerns me that someone perhaps ground it down further to cover blade issues. There were shorter model bayonets for higher ranks but they were made that way with shorter blades.

Better pics of the hilt should tell the tale.

As an aside, the style of grip emblem the Alcoso seems to show is the so-called wide-winged type, as distinguished from the stubby-winged type typically seen on Weimar produced examples. This style would be correct for 3R produced bayonets, often with aluminum hilts.

Nothing that looks correct, short pommel, locking nut is movable? shortened blade, scabbard could be done from Brazil 1908/34, frog is german for S84/98.b.r.Andy

Thanks for all the input guys, methinks I will leave this one well alone. I'm sure there's a nicer one just around the corner.

Meanwhile, don't know if I ever showed this one. A 3rd Reich era produced Polizei bayonet. Aluminium fittings and wooden grips fashioned to look like stag horn.

A side note for myself, I should really pay more attention. The eagle on the grip is very similar to the example I show here. Maybe I should take the bayonets out of the cupboard more often!!

            Jamie,

That's a very nice looking Polizei bayonet. The grip emblem is the one I was referring to & 100% legit for such a vintage blade. I'm thinking the emblem on the slotted Alcoso you showed has much less detail than this one but better pics will tell the tale.

Possible the blade is ok,looks like for bayonet with clammshell, the grips are wood imitate a horngrip, strange rivets and i personally dont like shape of grip, possible it was chemically cleaned? frog is probably normal S84/98 . b.r.Andy

                Hello
The rivets are brand new compared to the age of the bayonet. Possibly replacement of the grips which are easier to make with wood than staghorn.
                Regards

My feeling is this one with the imitation staghorn grips has had recent "messing with". I agree with Alain the rivets look far too new, when compared with the patina of the hilt and cross guard. Also the grip eagle, though correct is in high polish. Something doesn't add up.
