    Questionable Railroad Portapee on 'E-Ban'

    I see this purported original 2nd Railroad portapee listed on e-bay by a WAF member, and I ask why is it original, and why is it to a 2nd Railroad dagger ?
    It looks like a fake to me. What do you say guys ?

      My initial thought was the cords on the bulb seemed thick so I figured maybe a Johnson piece? Difficult to say without an in-hand assessment. I'd be curious if there were any reaction to the inside of the bulb with blacklight.

        Take a look at the few strands on the cord showing the inner body. Same on the neck.

          Hello all,

          I am the seller of this item and will pull it down immediately. I showed the piece to Ron Weinand and he stated he liked it. The core is the correct color and it does not glow under a black-light.

          if you guys see something I don't, please educate me.

              well they're not SA belts and buckles as not one is RZM marked. All SA belts and political leader belts/buckles are RZM marked. Also, it has been known in several instances where regulations were not strictly followed and Heer Generals wore RZM style belts as they were easier to find and had a pebbled gold buckle.

              For reference, here is a pebbled belt/buckle which is RZM marked and not described as a General's buckle whatsoever due to the RZM markings.

                    Thanks Pat for posting your example, which IMO, is a original 2nd Railroad portapee.

                    Note the construction shape of the stem and slide, compared to the Kramer example.
                    Note the stem strands are snug and do not show lack of of material to cover interior of stem body.
                    Note the cord is covered by 3 strands per layer, while the Kramer example shows 2, which exposes the cord interior body.
                    Note also the color of the accented strand tape is Black, the proper color for for a Railroad portapee.

                    I can go on, but looking further, just at the construction of the Kramer example, IMO, strongly suggests his portapee was produced post-war by non expert makers.
                    Many of these post-war ports were constructed with original period threads, so if it doesn't glow under black-light, is not a one-check feature of originality.

                      well the Meda example has a lack of material to cover interior of stem body and purple accents like mine. Now, this piece has a muted black core whereas mine is purple. So are these maker variations or flat out fakes?

                        Doesn't matter what other dealer is selling one like yours. We're talking about your example. The quality does not compare to known and accepted originals. The 'Variant' clause won't work, when strands are missing and the construction quality sucks.

                        Compare yours to the one Pat posted. IMO yours is junk and is No Period Variant.
