Why no Dagger for the Political leaders?

I've often wondered why it seemed that almost every organization had a dagger of their own but the status of a political leader in Germany never rated one. Any one have any insights as to why this might have been and anyone ever see a photo of a political leader wearing any other organizations dagger?

Deutsche Arbeits Front (DAF). They had a buckle, uniform, headgear, and strong organization but no dagger.

Political rivalry.

The DAF 'uniform' was more of a smart blazer and cap than a REAL uniform.

Robert Ley desperately wanted an armed, uniformed arm of the DAF but due to pressure from other nazi leaders the best he could manage were the 'Werkscharen'.

Nice paramilitary uniform but there were strickt rules restricting the size of a Werkschar. They were not allowed to form an honour guard for any DAF officials and above all they were expressly denied a dress sidearm.

There were a hell of a lot of people under the auspices of the DAF.

Looks like AH didn't want yet another private army running around.

Jeff, you have a good point. If we take time to think about it, there are probably many more organizations with the same status as dagger carrying ones that never received a dagger. Seems like everyone received a snappy uniform or quasi-uniform, but not all organizations rated a dagger. It still seems that Political Leaders should have had their own dagger just based on the style of their uniform.

Hi Richard - Unless I misunderstood, the political leader would have had at minimum an SA dagger. Perhaps an SA High Leader, Honor dagger, Feldherrnhalle or even SS.

Only certain job levels of the Political Organization were awarded the right to carry the PL Dienstpistole or Ehrenwaffe: Ortsgruppenleiter and higher. The daggers were pretty much available to all rank and file of those party affilitate organizations that issued a dagger. The cost to the member was a good deal more and consequently, I would say far fewer pistols were sold than daggers. Is there anyway to know the percentage of purchase of daggers by the rank and file of the SA and SS?

Political Leaders And Daggers?

There exists a photograph of the HJ Leader Baldur von Schirach, NOT in HJ uniform, but wearing a Political Leader Uniform with the HJ armband, and wearing an SA Dagger. It will be published in my forthcoming book: The Holbein Series.
