KM Dagger, unmarked blade; Opinions please.

Hello again to this great forum. I have received this dagger and am a little disappointed. The blade, while attractive, has overall light pitting that has been polished. The blade looks better than my bad photos but it still could be somewhat better. Also, I wondered if the wire might be replaced and how much the hairline cracks in the grip, as well as the broken part of the grip which is hidden by the ferrule, hurts the value.

If I keep this it will cost me $500; I feel I can live with the problems if it is a bargain price (and of course provided that the dagger is original). I also would like to know what the numbers on the blade tang mean and whether or not the maker is known. Please let me know what you think. Sorry for the bad photos; I can take new photos of anything you need to look at more closely. Thanks,

    Harvey

              Harvey,

You will probably get a lot of different responses because people see things differently when it comes to collecting.

The numbers on the tang were put on at the factory at the time of assembly and were for tracking purposes when assembling the dagger.

Personally, I would save another $400-$500 and get a much better dagger. That blade looks in pretty bad shape. When purchasing a dagger, you also have to look down the road at selling. The better the condition, the easier it is to sell.

But if you like the dagger, then that's really what counts.

I would say that if you want it and $500 is the max you want to spend, then go for it. It still looks cool.
But, if you can afford more, then wait for a better example. Plenty of them out there. One will come up on E-Stand before you know it.

It usually doesn't pay to purchase something you'll have to make excuses for later.
