WKC Navy dagger w/ hammered scabbard - oddity ?

Hello all,

So I picked this one up last week and as you can see, it doesn't exactly look brass does it? Are there examples that were produced with true silver fittings, or perhaps nickel? The handle is tightened down with a simple nut and the pommel does not tighten down on the tang. I really don't see any traces of gold wash in the recesses and on the throat I swear I see a silver finish over the base metal. Would love to know more about this one that I have here if any of you care to put an idea or two out there.

Yes it does look a bit unusual. Some late production navy daggers were constructed with pot metal hilt parts and steel scabbards, have you used a magnet to see if the scabbard is magnetic ? Some gold gilding can be seen and the parts are textbook WKC so it is genuine.

Thanks for the help thus far.

With the exception of the blade, nothing about this entire setup is magnetic.

IMO dagger grip is replaced.

Just from the picture, it looks like epoxy was used to secure the pommel to the blade tang. If that's true, I would completely agree that the grip was probably added at some later point.
