    Original mercator ?

    Does anyone know of this is an original mercator knife that could have been carried during ww2 by a German soldier?thanks in advance

    I believe that no pre-1945 piece would be marked Germany! Should have DRGM marking.

      My wartime example has DRGM on one side and Mercator on the other.

        I think this is post war, the type usually painted black, but possibly an early type before they painted the handles.
        I posted one that was wartime some years back, so just my opinion , as post war, as previously stated export pieces are always marked made in Germany or Germany . Not sure if there were any exported prior to 1939 or when the war started if so by some coincidence ....that may be a possibility but I highly doubt it. Seems to me the wartime versions have slightly longer blades . Still a nice knife to carry. Maybe someone will disagree and have more info as to why.

          A positive response. You know more than I do so you are probably right with post war.but if it had a longer blade the blade wouldn't fit in the scales. So the previous war ones must be bigger knives ?
