This certain dagger has been offered in a german forum for sale. It is said that the leather of scabbard and grip is a "replacement". But due to a lot of features (eg. the emblem and some details of the scabbard fittings) and due to the fact that I recently have hat the opportunity to examine an exact copy of this daggers in hands (which has been a fake) imho this one shown here is also a fake.
Greetings, daggers.

A lot of these 1st models have now replaced leather, as these old guys wore these daggers a lot. The grip emblem is clearly a fake. The rest I would need a 'in hand' but if 'daggers' says he seen these 'in-hand', and they are repro's, I would not doubt it.
There are very good fakes coming out of the former 'East Bloc' these days. As a example; this dagger would fool many here in the states. However, our European colleagues are closer to the source, and due to that fact, have more experience than many collectors/dealers here.
'Daggers', Thanks for you input.

I sold this dagger. I got this dagger without emblem and lost leather, it was recovered by a restorer, the emblem I bought from a collector, maybe this will be wrong. I know the perfect copies coming from east europe and I know that this piece is restored but a real piece.
There is evidence of ignorance to say it would be a copy ..

Thank You for chiming in here as the owner who did the restoration. I looked past the recovering and the fake repro insignia. Beyond that nothing stood out from the photos that told me it was a repro, so a 'hands On' inspection would be required.
Many of these 1st models are recovered as after five or six years of year on a single suspension strap they got beat up during the period, then postwar years the leather takes additional wear in drying out. The strap looks like the original and is very nice to see, as most of these have been replaced or just gone to time, as the RLB Leader dagger is a heavy one to be suspended from a single DVL dirk style leather hanger.
What I think hurts this restoration the most is the repro grip insignia. You must always try to find a original as many will call this fake because not only is it recovered but has a repro grip emblem....so caution is raised, as is suspicion to originality.
Here is one on Tom Wittmann's site that been recovered (and he states so).

These 1st models are hard to find. However, the pricy cost for a authentic grip insignia would be worth it and would in the end not create the controversy that now exists. It would just be a recovered 1st model RLB, the rest being original.
-JMO- Other may think different.
