Long dress bayonets/display

Gentlemen,

I figured I would ask here, as there has to be someone else who shares my love of the long dress bayonets. How do you guys display your long dress bayonets with knots and without?

I have looked around and seen that Bill Shea has those Acrylic stands for daggers but I don't know how well they would hold a dress bayonet. I don't know what it is about them that I like so much but I am trying to get all the different makers.

Also does anyone have a complete list of all of the makers of the long dress bayonets or could point me in the direction of a book on the subject. I would assume that they are mentioned briefly in some of the dagger books but don't want to spend the money unless I'm sure. Thanks in advance for the assistance. Matt

I have found the Fisher Quick Reference volumes 3 and 4 to be great reference on maker and maker marks. While not necessarily complete (no book is really), this is a great reference set and I use it all the time. It ahs all makers and would take some digging through it to find only the NS Military bayonets, but it is worht the money and the effort.

In regards to the books, I have never heard of those. Do you have the full names so I can hunt them down? Matt

Nice bunch of KS98 bayonets looks like you have a lot of the engraved ones Wayne Techt has a good book on them also George Wheelers "The German bayonet 1919 to 1945 is a good one too. timothy

very nice examples, like the short ones do you? We need to get a little curio cabinet as our house is kinda set up to have one or two. Was thinking of getting a thinner tall case and maybe going with some of the acrylic stands like these. I think they are a bit expensive but may look really nice with some stellar dress bayonets displayed on them. Need to pick up a few of the etched ones but that just takes time and a little money. Im in no crazy rush at this point and will get them as they come my way. Matt

The books are called:

NS Dagger Maker Trademarks, Fisher Quick Reference by R&R Fisher. It comes in 4 volumes and is privately published. I find volumes 3 & 4 to be particularly useful since they contain pictures of maker marks and some details of the maker.

I find that simple, high quality display cabinets/cases work the best for me.

You may want to try the Reichertshofen show in September as some of my examples have come from that show.

thank you for that additional info. I was able to find the company that produces it and just sent them an email. Its a spendy set but looks to be a killer reference for all edged weapons. Im sure it will be well worth the cost for the series. Matt
