100% later mid period (40 -41ish) Alcoso as can be seen by the use of their final pommel design. Very nice shape and exeptional eagle head definition for this guard. Nice! Kevin.

Original unmarked third type of Alcoso Solingen Heer dagger. These crossguard was produced in the period between 1936-1940.
Unfortunately this dagger is an example of the destruction, caused by excessive cleaning.

I will beg to differ with you. This Alcoso looks to be silver plated with an 'alt silber' patinating wash to highlight the details. This dagger approximately matches other Alcoso examples I have seen that were never cleaned but retained their brite silver look. Others will indeed be found with a beautiful dark blue/black patina.

These statement would be correct, if we are talking about kind of plating, which was used used Anton Wingen Solingen.
But here, we are talking about Alcoso Solingen Heer dagger - plating which eventually after some time - turned into black color.

Example of intact / unclean 3. type Alcoso Heer dagger:

The differences are more than obvious.

Here's an unmarked Alcoso heer dagger I have owned for many years. I recieved it in this condition and I have certainly not cleaned it. It has not grown the dark patina that we all love to see. In the same time period I acquired a cleaned silver plated Eickhorn heer dagger that has taken on a beautiful patina since. The storage conditions are identical.
Some daggers just had the design highlighted with an old silver wash. I believe you can find this type of extra finish listed in some maker's catalogs.

I have also had a very darkly patinaed Alcoso heer dagger that I sold last year. Stored with the rest.

                    Enjoy!

                    All the best,

                    Tony
