    Help with Dress/Parade Bayonet

I just picked up my first Bayonet, I really don't know much about these. I believe that the maker mark is "SOLINGEN". Is this a popular maker?

    Thanks for the help,
    Randy

It looks to be original. "Solingen" is the name of the city in Germany where it was manufactured. The maker is Paul Seilheimer (I may have misspelled that as my reference books aren't handy at the moment) as indicated by the initials "P.S."

The frog is for a combat S84/98 bayonet, so not correct here on a dress piece. It was probably blackened or used black shoe cream on it.

Thank you for the help (AndyB and fredswiss). Yes, you are correct on this bayonet having the incorrect frog. The previous owner had mentioned that. Is this Bayonet worth keeping? Would the correct frog be hard to find?

            Thanks again for the information,
            Randy

no the dress frogs are easy to obtain, You should buy a nice S84/98 bayonet for the combat frog and the virus of collecting already started.
