    My first dagger... Eichorn KM

    Hello!
Happy New Year to you all !

I have bee offered to buy this KM dagger, but i would be my first dagger, so I would very much like to hear your opinion on this before I buy.

I have spent a lot of time researching on the internett to try to figure out for my self wether it is good or not. I am pretty sure it is OK, but then again - what do I really know about daggers?

I have been told that the grip is celluloid. There is a very thin piece of felt between the crossguard and the scabbard (I don't know what this is called). The colour seems to be greenish/grayish. It is easy to unskrew the pommel, and when I do, I can see that there is a wooden core in the grip. Both the pommel and the crossguard is showing som "cracks" or faults in the casting. This makes me a bit uneasy, but perhaps the wartime productions in general didn't display the famous german quality? Is this a problem ? Another concern is the scabbard. It has taken som beating right below the lightning arrows, but what concerns me is the palmette (oak leaves?) bands. They both have very "sharp" and straight edges, sometimes cutting the tip off the leaves. I can't say that I have found these straight edges on other pictures. As to the blade and etchings, I think it is difficult to assess when only comparing to pictures, so I really don't know what to think...

Any opinions will be appreciated !

Crossguard and hanger. The hanger is not original to the dagger, and I can see that there is missing a piece of chain. But is it original?

        Hallo Alfonsoer,
This dagger is an original late Eickhorn in heavily used condition. The scabbard is also original but Holler production.

        Regards
        Jakub

          Hello, Jakub
Thank you for your rewiew. Nice to hear that the dagger and scabbard both are original. As to the heavy use, I don't mind for this first buy. The fact that the scabbard is a Holler- does this mean the set most likely is a post war "put-together"? I guess this significantly reduses the collection-value?
          Sincerely
          Alfonsoer

Alfonsoer, Dagger looks good, have to agree that the scabbard has the F.W.Holler type bands..maybe replaced during or after war? As far as the hangers go..be careful, some very good copies out now! Be good to see pictures of them layed out front and back! Close ups of the stitching also.. Kevin.

              Alfonsoer,
From what I can see all the elements have similar signs of wear so it is possible that the replacement took place in the period but that you will never be sure..
These doubts may affect the price, for people who will be able to identify manufacturers of various elements of course.

Thank you very much Jacub and Heers68 !

It's a good thing for me to know that the scabbard is not original to the dagger. Althoug a bit disappointing, it is still good to know that it is original.

I am posting pictures of the hangers - hoping these also are genuine...? I will be greatful of any comments on these (I think they are OK, but as you understand - I'm a beginner trying to learn something...)

                Best regards

Original hangers with no signs of repairs.

Certainly not bad for a first dagger.

I agree original hangers, the regain chain and hook are missing, it's possible they were never attached ?
