SS M33 121/120's

I have owned a few of these pieces over the past few years and wondered if anyone had any insights into the manufacturer of these pieces? Any ideas and crackpot theories are welcome! Pack scabbard fittings, etch matching, etc.?

Yes I recall that one Paul. There were some great threads like this back in the Heyday of GDC, too bad they, for the most part, are all gone now.

I have always hear rumors that Pack made these but they would have really made both the 120 and 121's?

One could see the GDC decline starting around 2006/07, at the same time the growth of the Edged Weapons section here.
GDC is mostly 'on the morphine drip' due to improper management skills, disappearance of old threads, different rules for different people, stuff like that is a site killer.
If they were a actual physical business and not a internet forum, they would have shut the doors a long time ago. However GDC is now sadly to quote an old saying; ' Lights are on, but nobody's home'.

Anyway back to the subject, so were 120s & 121s both made by Pack, good question but will we ever get to the bottom of it ?

Have always felt the the RZM 120/34 SS daggers pointed to Pack characteristics. From the scabbard fittings to grip and even etch traits.

the 121's though, assuming that a contract number for 1934, would not have been made by Pack then correct? This theory would also mean that any Pack marked M33's were only 1933 production and thus very initial, which would contribute to the good quality seen on the Pack pieces?

I'm afraid we may never know, unless one still exists with it's original factory tag riveted to the grip. Someone, perhaps a non-collector, may have one that survived from the factory intact.

Perhaps these early pieces didn't come with such a tag like other RZM pieces and thus none have ever surfaced?

What about tang markings & inside crossguard cast markings?, do they match up with a maker marked Pack SS ?, a side by side comparison photo of a 120/121 & maker marked Pack SS would be interesting to see .

Without giving a value judgement as to the reliability of the facts presented I offer an article from World War II War Booty ,vol. IV by Tom Johnson. If you have this old reference book, pages 4 through 6 give an illustrated account of edged weapons removed from the Eickhorn factory showrooms by 1st SGT ( retired) Ray Riley (USA). Amongst the several bagged/tagged weapons Riley is reported to have removed from Eickhorn's showrooms is pictured a mint SS-M33 with 120/34 blade. I attach scans of this SS-M33.
