The maker of your bayonet with code S.238 is Dürkopp Werke, Bielefeld and the G means it produced in 1935 another code is K = 1934. All German bayonet was S/coded until 1937 and once again with tre letter code from ca. 1940.

I just noted that the mismatched scabbard has maker mark S/155 G

I suppose this is also from 1935 but who's the maker?

Now, given that both bayo and scabbard are from G-date (1935), what would be the most logical explanation to this?

This would be a field mis-match; not done by the factory unless it has forced matching serial numbers. In this case, it could be an armorer rework or could have been refurbished post-war. If it has matching serial numbers, they would have to be examined for originality.

Thanks for your info. There are different s/n for bayo and scabbard.
I was misled by the G on both items.
