        Dear friend,

In my opinion, this is a 'parts dagger' and I, for one, would not want it in my collection. The fact that the grip was obviously not intended to be mated with the upper and lower crossguards present first indicated to me that this piece was not always as it is now. There are also a number of unanswered questions visible with this piece, including:
Why is the condition of the blade so much worse than the condition of the crossguards? Under most conditions, the always-exposed crossguards are usually in much worse condition than the blade, which is usually protected by the scabbard.
The obverse lower crossguard has been die-stamped with what appears to be the letter "O" -- if this was intended to represent the district code where this SA sidearm was ordered, the stamping was always done to the reverse side of the lower crossguard, never the obverse.
Again, what does the letter "O" represent? To my knowledge there was no such district code used by either the SA or the NSKK.
The condition of the grip wood appears to be quite good, yet both the inset eagle/swaz and the SA button look to have had a well-used lifetime. With crossguards that look almost brand-new, something is wrong here!

        Just a few thoughts...

WOW, rough one here! I assume there is no scabbard? The dagger must have been very rusty and weathered indeed when someone tryed to clean it up and very harshly at that! Grip looks to have been stripped and sanded...blade polished to the max! Not much left here of use, perhaps the guards. District marking looks like BO to me with a light strike on the "B". $75 bucks or so on value. Kevin.
