IMO a copy. It has a T slot instead of a TO slot ???

The frog belongs to the Luftwaffe.

          Hello
It is not a copy it is a good police bayonet. I have several of these bayonets (Weimar, III Reich, dress) and they have a T slot and not a T/O slot.
The crossguard seem to be unmarked and it would be interesting to know if there is no marking on the scabbard. The steel parts of the scabbard are rusted or only dirty ?
Why the frog would only be for the Lufwaffe ?

          Regards

This is the frog model for the Luftwaffe, look at "Anzugsordnung für die Luftwaffe Teil A, Vorschriften über Beschaffenheit, Sitz und Trageweise der einzelnen Bekleidungsstücke sowei der Signalinstrumente, S 86, Nr. 47, Seitengewehrtasche"

After 1940 the frog was painted black.

Police frogs had the smooth face of the leather outside...

With a T slot you can only fix the bayonet to an Karbiner 98 a.
No other. But it was a need to fix it to a Gewehr 98 and Karaniner 98.
So a official use is not manageable.

This is a official service "Polizeiseitengewehr, aufpflanzbar" with a matching frog and knot.

While it's fairly rare that you find a German Police frog that has been painted over they do exist, and in 1940 Luftwaffe frogs were being manufactured using black leather. But I don't see an L.B.A. (Luftwaffe) marking, unless I missed it. So lacking the central line of stitching, from my perspective it seems to be a German Army issue frog based upon what is visible in the two images that have been posted so far. FP

                Hi Sleepwalker

I don't really see the problem this T slot. These bayoents are only sidearms. All my Polizei bayonets with slot are T slot and I am sure they are not fakes.
I think you should have a look at several dealers website an you will see by yourself.

T slots are perfectly proper on police bayonets. These bayonets attached to the police Kar.98a and not the Kar.98k military rifle. One will also find KS98 police bayonets with the T slot instead of the T/O slot.

looks like a nice original to me. black frog for municipal police, brown frog for rural. my 2 have no slot at all. never intended to go on a rifle.

This police bayonet is an original by Alcoso, but the shortening of the blade was not done as it should and that will reduce the overall value of the piece.

                      Best regards,
