Ive seen real ivory grips sell on ebay, or you could wait for one to come along.
If you took this ivory grip from another piece then you would be spoiling another dagger.imo

Poor grip mating fit at pommel.
I wouldn't mess around with it...sell it the way you found it, as of now your showing yourself as a 'dagger humper' (with full disclosure). However it's what sticks in my mind and perhaps others as you try to improve value by switching parts.

You don't want to get that type of reputation in the dagger world.

I'm not trying to enhance the value I'm trying to make it correct. I was told the orange grip was a replacement and not original to the dagger and was missing the wire. If I was trying to hide something from the community I certainly wouldn't openly discuss things.

The thing to struck me about the original pics you posted of this piece with the trolon grip was that the grip and ferrel were sidways!! What does the blade tang and tang hole on that trolon grip look like that allowed that wonky assembly configuration?? Kevin.

So what is the opinion of the forum, which one stays?

Did I really do that wrong switching out the grips? Is one really that much of a better fit than the other, is there something that I'm not seeing?

If it were mine I would leave it as found with the orange grip. All the unmarked "Voos" type engraved dirks I have seen had trolon/plastic grips, the ivory grips seem to be the norm for the Voos marked blades. Whatever, I would leave it as found, jmo.

A member on germandaggers stated he thought this to be a parts dagger because the handle wire had been reworked, please see his post:

Then the finish on the dagger appears odd.
The scabbard finish seems to be of an odd color and almost perfect, except what look like scratch marks from the suspension rings being slid over the surface…


The etch also seems a little odd, but I don´t know these well enough to comment.

In any case, I would say that this dagger is at best a "restored" piece, at worst a parts piece…

Just my thoughts.

I would like to defend my dagger and say that if the handle wasn't original to the dagger it was changed in the 1940's as this was a Veteran acquired lot and has never been in a collector's hands prior to me obtaining the lot. The Veteran that brought back the pieces did not alter anything else, so why would he mess with a grip on a Luftwaffe dagger?
