Hello folks. I was lucky enough to find this little gem at the flea market this morning. A nice Horster made Nahkampfmesser, nicely blade marked 42 fze. Although I've had a few of these over the years, I believe this is the first one that's been marked w/ anything other than a stick-bird type waffenamt. The belt / boot clip is also intact, and what I like best is the nice wear on the scabbard from the soldiers boot. A few pix for your perusal. Thanks!

One of the grip plates seem´s to be replaced.
Is the knife drop-forged, (made in one piece), or is the "crossguard" an "extra" component of the knife ?

Hi gents. Grip plates are both original, nothing's been touched. Yes, the flash plays tricks w/ the light, no doubt. I believe the guard is integral, but as I don't have it in hand, I'm not 100 percent sure, however I believe this is the case. Thx for your comments!Comment

As for the grip slabs used on German fighting knives from both WWI and WWI in general, I have seen a lot of variation in color and some different wood types between the two sides on 100% factory knives.
I feel pretty sure that the blanks were cut out at tow diferent stations in the production with jigs set up for right and left side.....so essentially it was whatever was picked out of the left bin matted with the one out of the right bin.Comment
