    SA Dagger...Axt-Und Hauerfabrik

Hi Guys, got this SA yesterday, doing a search on the maker, it seems kinda scarce?
Not sure what is up with the scabbard, looks more goldish in color, would the anodize fade to this color?....or maybe nicotined by a smoker?
Blade is much better in hand, see the last pic.
    A desirable SA Dagger?
Hanger?....some cloth strap, probably an add on later.
Would appreciate some opinions on this
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Gary

The goldish colour reminds me of the nicotine stained pieces that show up ever so often.

Could be nicotine John, on the fittings, i would say yes, but the scabbard body is more like a copper / goldish finish.
I don't want to try cleaning it though.
            Any thoughts guys?
            Regards,
            Gary

Gary, i,m pretty sure the scabbard has been repainted gold at some point in its life, maybe back in the 70s?
you could use some Acetone or nail polish remover to take off the modern gold paint & hopefully there will be lots of the origional finish underneath, take that modern peice of cloth off the hanger loop & replace it with a nice genuine early solid nickle hanger as the dagger deserves it imo.

Thanks Mac, but you can see bare metal where the scratches are, so there might not be any anodizing left, plus i don't like cleaning anything, the strap, i guess i will leave it there.
Might have to let it go
So, any help with rarity, and all would be greatly appreciated.
                Regards,
                Gary

I guess 7 is not bad outta 10.
Did a search, and only 2000 made with this maker?

no expert but i do believe that the orignal finish has gone threw some sort of exposure to something that has cause it to turn this shade .remember the orignal was a sort of rusting procedure .so anything on down the time line can effect it color if we look at a number of early ones .very rare are they all the same shade.

A bluing process was used, its actually not anodizing though that seems to be the prevailing term for it.

Just to note that "estimate" of 2000 daggers made comes from Fisher"s book and has no basis in reality. as we had no idea how many were made- Mike McAlvanah
