    SS fighting knife?

I came across a fighting knife at a local antique mall that has an inset SS disc like the one's found on SS daggers. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? It is very well made but looks too good to be true, not to mention that I have never seen anything like it before. Any ideas?

    Steve,

There is evidence to suggest that these did exist during the 1933-1945 period, but they are very easy to fake. All one really needs is an SS dagger grip insignia (usually available from Tom Johnson), a fighting knife, a drill bit of the proper size, a drill press or drill motor and presto!

I would be very careful if the asking price is a great deal more than the cost of the grip insignia and a plain fighting knife.

    Hope that helps!

Well, actually, I should have mentioned that the style of knife is definately different than a normal fighting knife. Most noticable is the hilt which is not rounded but squared, and it appears to be slightly larger than standard fighting knives, but I could be wrong about this point. I wish I could get a photo as I know that would help a great deal.
