    Damascus SA

    Hi

Does anyone know Damascus SA pieces, plus I also thought only honor daggers had leather scabbards?

I'd like to see some pictures of the other side of the blade but this looks to be artificial post war "damascus" to me.

German Daggers of WWII by Thomas M. Johnson indicates not all of the SA Honor Daggers had a Damascus blade, but all had a raised oak leaf pattern on the crossguards. I don't see a Damascus blade in the lower grade SA Daggers before 1935. In addition, the Damascus blade in question seems to have a very kinky wave versus a long flowing wave of the originals blades that I see in my reference books.

The SA Dagger in question seems to have a Damascus blade that doesn't match the rest of the dagger? This information is just what I can find, and I am a student on this topic with over 50 years of interest.

              Kind Regards,
              Don_

                Dion,

I'd love to see pics of the reverse blade as well as any tang markings, if possible. This looks to be artificial damascus & there are a lot of postwar ones out there. Not saying this one is bad but the tang & reverse blade might help to vet it.

Iam trying to get more pics.

Meanwhile more popped up and I get the feeling someone is dumping a bunch of really played with pieces with bad Damastcus blades Here is another .

The scabbard on this NSKK looks alike te Spanish repro scabbard a bit.

                      And another

My knoweldge only covers basic daggers 101 Eg LW Heer SA and beginning SS

Even with that these pieces set off my alarms big time.

Here is the reverse shot of the blade of the original dagger I started the thread off with. Tere are a couple more daggers I seen and they all look to be throwtogethers with the same eagles and postwar damastcus blades,,,Somebody has been busy and someone else will be very sorry if they go for this.

What these daggers really need is a 'secret ingredient' like a "story" - which has sometimes worked well for some other daggers. How about that they were found in the attic of the "Braunhaus" in Munich? No ...... that won't work, it was destroyed in an air raid. How about them being found in the attic of NSDAP Admin HQ? FP
