German K98 bayo - wartime rework???

    Hello gentlemen
Recently I purchase a near mint K98 WKC bayo. The bluing is retained on the scab in 98% having only some very minor scratches and some wear to the ball as well as some frog wear. he knife has only runner wear on the blade and frog wear on the crossguard. Scab has matching serial no's, but it is obvious that the previous numbers have been ground off, and then new one applied, and then the whole scab reblued. The scab is marked Paul Weyersberg 1940, while the knife is a 1937 WKC product. The bluing is dull black type. The frog is marked kvz43. It looks oK with the excepions of the leather edge - it has a rough black finish that I have never seen in this location. Could you please give me your oppionions? Have you seen such work before? Is it legitimate? Or some kind of post war rework? Thanks in advance

The serialing of the bard to bayonet were mostly striked out with line and new were applied under, but exist samples typical to Yours, from my informations should be the piece have a wood grips, and this could be confirmed by dissasembling of the grips, maybe You can find assembly markings or serialing under grips, other point is the blueing, it look really dull, it could be made by the reblueing of bard or its overall new postwar finish, while the origin WKC 1937 blueing have a nice blue glossy finish. The frog looks corect and any times were this seen with blackened sides.best regards,Andy from

Hi Andy. Thank you for your oppionion. You mean that it is a surely a post war refinish, or it might still be original WWII work?
      Thanks

Hello Karol, its reserialed in german manner, but i am not sure about the originality of the blueing. When You can look under grips to see any assembly marks and serials, when its so marked, then it could be original rework. best regards.Andy
