Mauser Bayonet 1915 ? (need help)

Gentlemen !

Please help me with this one. I know nothing about bayonets, and realy want info on this one. I collect german awards, but like to have some other items in my collection too. I have two "normal" Mauser bayonets from WWII, but this one is different. I think its from 1915, but I like to know.......

Why is it drilled a hole in the grip ?
Does it need the same type of frog as my other two ?
Is it a rare model ?

Your Imperial S84/98 bayonet is correct. This distinctive style is known to have been made by Johann Mehlich A.G. in Berlin in 1915. The squared fuler and circular drain hole in the grips are very distinctive.

I think Mehlich produced bayonets are quite rare - especially one in such good condition.

That's a nice looking, rare bayonet. It would take a frog similar to the ones you have on your WWII bayonets, but without the retaining strap.
