    SS chained dagger

One of my neighbors approached me with this piece. Since I do not consider myself an expert with daggers, what do you guys thinks of it? I believe it to be type 1.

Trevor, looks like a classic Type I to me. Nice. You take those photos, good job. Anyone can clearly make their determination from those.

The easiest way for me to remember is to think "Holy One" as the type 1 has a hole in the top cloverleaf through which you can see the DRGM stamp on the belt clip.

          a question

Aren't the chained SS Daggers suppossed to have no maker mark or is this SS dagger an early one that has been "upgraded" to a chained ??

            Good question Craig,

Given the fact that the scabbard/hanger set-up is the first type, I would assume it was exactly that - a '33 SS paired up with a chained scabbard.

Althought it's difficult - if not impossible - to tell when the dagger & scabbard were put together for the first time, everything looks original and the piece doesn't give me any cause for concern.

Trevor, if you're being offered the dagger with an opportunity to purchase it, the spots on the blade detract some from the value and there appears to be a crack in the grip (thankfully on the reverse), but if you can get for a fair price, it would be a nice, early, original display piece.

            Best,

Thanks guys for your input. My neighbor has offered it to me. He also has a stone mint TENO officer's dagger. I hope to get some pictures of it posted tomorrow.
                Thanks again
