Imperial Navy Dagger - question on color

I found this dagger and want to get an opinion or two. Sorry for the bad pics. As you can see the scabbard has a very different color tone then the cross guard. Why do you think that is? Also shouldn't the handle be wrapped in color braded wire?

Whatever might have caused the difference in the color could only be speculated. According to Thomas Wittmann's Navy dagger book, this is the 1890 cadet pattern and grip wire was not used on this model.

Looks to me that all the finish is gone from the scabbard, and that is why their is a difference in color.
