As a curiosity what are the obvious give aways? The Spine looks very sharp? The fittings look almost wood based or something tan colored????....

My first one-hundred-dollar hint - take a close look at the crossguards . . .

Do you think the seller is simply not aware that the dagger has issues? If so, it would only be kind to openly offer our assistance, right?

The blade is not right and neither is the RZM marked blade, a complete fake IMO.

            Sorry for the bad news.

Could you please explain? I put a ruler to it and its even across. More importantly I got it from a neighbor vet who I have known my whole life. Lets say it is a fake, were they really making fakes this good back before 1958? Thats the only time my family has not seen this dagger.

If you look at the line that I have added to the centerline of the grind, then examine the letters "e" throughout the motto, you will see what I am talking about.

Out of woodwork? Hmmm, I compared it to mine (out of real woodwork in Berlin area) and they look totally different (materials, construction, etching details and position).

Ive never seen a real rZm mark like that? What is the base of the crossguard under the plating?

There are real RZM marks like that actually, but here the logo is too far away from the crossguard plus there are small differences in details.

It's an alloy of copper and zinc . . .

The proportions seem a bit off to me as well, handle seems too big, scabbard fittings seem malformed...its just 'off'.
