PAINTED BAYONET frog?

I bought this at a gun show not too long ago. The frog has been painted brown. It looks to be older paint. Did some brances of german wartime service do this?

The LW and Police used brown colored leather, but should be proper marked too, this is not the case. I believe its postwar upgrade?
